Tyson Vanlandingham
Tyson shapes the team’s direction through practice management and the continuous enhancement of the value-add resources provided to our clients.
Background
Tyson Vanlandingham is the Managing Principal / Wealth Advisor of Council Family Office, an independent multi-family office serving families, individuals, and business owners through significant financial transitions.
With more than 24 years of experience in financial services, Tyson helps clients bring clarity, structure, and perspective to complex financial decisions involving wealth transfer, inheritance, divorce, business ownership, business succession, and the sale of closely held business interests. His work focuses on helping clients coordinate the many moving parts of their financial lives, including investments, estate planning coordination, tax planning coordination, cash flow, concentrated assets, business interests, real estate, and family wealth.
Before Council Family Office, Tyson held advisory roles at Dean Witter / Morgan Stanley and JP Morgan Chase, where he served as a Private Client Advisor and Vice President. After leaving JP Morgan, he built a private wealth management firm, growing it from a small team into a larger advisory practice before selling his interest to focus on serving clients through Council Family Office.
Today, Tyson considers it an honor to help operate Council Family Office for the benefit of the firm’s team and the clients they serve. In his role, he helps shape the firm’s direction, strengthen its planning process, and expand the resources available to clients as they navigate increasing financial complexity, family transitions, business decisions, and other important life events.
Tyson has a strong interest in behavioral finance, particularly how families make decisions during emotional or uncertain periods. This perspective is central to his work with clients navigating wealth transfer, receiving an inheritance, selling a business, preparing for succession, or making major planning decisions around family, liquidity, real estate, and long-term financial security.
This work is also personal to Tyson. His own experience includes helping transition family-owned assets, coordinating tax-conscious reinvestment into income-producing real estate, participating in the sale of business interests, and working through significant personal and financial transitions. These experiences give him a practical understanding of how family wealth, business ownership, taxes, real estate, and major life events often intersect.
Tyson is deeply committed to the New Orleans community. He serves as a board member of Grace at the Green Light, an organization serving unhoused New Orleanians. He also worked to raise funds for The Funky Uncle Project, an effort created to support local musicians and gig workers during a time of significant need. Out of that work, the Louisiana Music and Heritage Experience was born, a project dedicated to creating a 120,000-square-foot interactive museum celebrating Louisiana music.
Tyson earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Business from the University of Mississippi. He lives in New Orleans with his wife, Taylor, a business owner, their son, Grayson, and their two dogs, Wella and Ryder. Outside the office, Tyson enjoys spending time with his family, music, and traveling with Grayson for lacrosse tournaments.
